Aragon Race 1: Zaccone Claims Maiden WorldSSP Victory as Debise Battles to Points Finish

Ducati's Alessandro Zaccone secured his first-ever WorldSSP race victory at MotorLand Aragon, beating championship leader Albert Arenas by 0.174 seconds in a tense Race 1. ZXMOTO's Valentin Debise, starting from the front row, endured a challenging race to finish eighth, collecting eight valuable championship points.

Aragon Race 1: Zaccone Claims Maiden WorldSSP Victory as Debise Battles to Points Finish

Saturday's WorldSSP Race 1 at MotorLand Aragon produced a first-time winner and a fascinating championship subplot, as Ducati's Alessandro Zaccone held off Albert Arenas on the final lap to claim a breakthrough victory while ZXMOTO's Valentin Debise salvaged a points finish from a difficult afternoon.

Zaccone, the Italian rider for Ecosantagata Althea Racing, had never stood on the top step of a WorldSSP podium before Saturday. His previous best result was a third place at Assen earlier in the season. But at Aragon, he produced the ride of his career, shadowing Arenas for the majority of the 15-lap contest before launching his decisive attack on the final tour.

The margin at the line — 0.174 seconds — belied the tension of the closing stages. Arenas, who started from pole and led for much of the race, appeared to have the pace to control proceedings. But Zaccone had saved his tyres masterfully in the blistering Spanish heat and struck when it mattered most.

Debise's Day of Struggles

For ZXMOTO and Valentin Debise, the race was a test of damage limitation. Starting from second on the grid — the result of that heart-stopping Superpole performance — expectations were high. But track conditions on Saturday were significantly different from Friday's qualifying session, with even higher temperatures and a gusting wind that unsettled the 820RR's front-end feel.

Debise dropped back gradually through the opening laps, finding himself locked in a multi-rider battle for mid-pack positions. By mid-race, he had slipped to tenth, with the leading group of Zaccone, Arenas, and Ferrari pulling away beyond reach.

But the Frenchman — who has made resilience a hallmark of his 2026 campaign — refused to yield. In the closing stages, he found improved pace, setting competitive sector times to recover two positions. Crossing the line in eighth, Debise added eight points to his championship tally.

"Not the result we wanted, but not the disaster it could have been," Debise reflected afterwards. "The heat changed everything from Friday. The bike wasn't responding the same way. But we kept fighting, and eight points is eight points. Tomorrow is another race."

Zaccone's Breakthrough

For Zaccone, the victory was the culmination of years of persistence. The 26-year-old has been a fixture in the WorldSSP paddock since 2022, collecting podiums but never that elusive first win. Saturday changed that.

"I can't believe it," Zaccone said, still helmet-clad in parc fermé. "I saw Albert starting to struggle with rear grip in the final laps, and I knew I had to go. This team has worked so hard. This is for them."

Matteo Ferrari completed the podium in third, rounding out an all-Italian top three in Spain. The result shuffled the championship order: Arenas extended his lead at the top, while the second ZXMOTO machine of Federico Caricasulo finished outside the points in 19th.
